Advair Diskus 100/50, Advair Diskus 250/50, and Advair Diskus 500/50 are combinations of fluticasone propionate and salmeterol xinafoate. This special combination of fluticasone and salmeterol is used to prevent wheezing, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties caused by asthma. Fluticasone is in a class of medications called steroids. This medication works by reducing swelling in the airways. Salmeterol is in a class of medications called long-acting beta-agonists. It works by relaxing and opening air passages in the lungs which makes it easier to breathe.

Diskus 250/50, and Advair Diskus 500/50 are uniquely
designed devices which contains a double-foil blister strip of a
powder formulation of fluticasone propionate and salmeterol xinafoate
intended for oral inhalation. Each blister contains 100, 250, or 500
mcg of microfine fluticasone propionate and 72.5 mcg of microfine
salmeterol xinafoate salt, equivalent to 50 mcg of salmeterol base, in
12.5 mg of formulation containing lactose. Each blister contains one
complete dose of both medications.
One the device is opened and activated, the medication is dispersed
into the air stream created by the patient inhaling through the
mouthpiece.
It is usually used twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the evening - usually twelve hours apart. In order to have better result, use it around the same time every day. Follow the label or your doctor's recommendation using the medication.
Do not use fluticasone and salmeterol during an asthma attack.
Advair Diskus controls asthma but does not cure it. It might take upto two weeks before you can get some positive result or feel any change. Consult your doctor if you don't feel betterr in two weeks.
