Clomiphene Citrate is sold under the brand names Clomid, Milophene, and Serophene. Clomid ovulation drug is the most popular one and probably the first fertility drug in this area. Clomid pregnancy drug is the first line drug used to induce ovulation in patients with PCOS and other ovulation disorder. It is also used to detect whether it is likely that a women ovary can still produce viable eggs. Clomid ovulation drug is not used for women where their ovaries have reached end of their normal working life to produce viable eggs.
Clomid (Clomiphene Citrate) works by changing the hormone balance of the female body. In result, it causes ovulation to occur in female body and prepares them for pregnancy. Clomid is a very potent fertility drug that reacts with every tissues in the body that have estrogen receptors.
Clomid most probably fools the female body to believe that the estrogen level in the body is low. The altered feedback information causes the hypothalamus, an area of the brain, to make and release more gonadotropin releasing hormone. This, in turn, causes the pituitary to make and release more FSH and LH. More follicle stimulating hormone and more luteinizing hormone result in the release of one or more mature eggs.
Clomid ovulation drug is taken orally for approximately five days early in the menstrual cycle, where first day of the menstrual cycle is the first day of normal bleeding. Most women begin with an initial dose of one 50mg tablet per day. This dose may be increased by your doctor in subsequent cycles if pregnancy does not occur. Once ovulating, most pregnancies occur in the first 6 cycles of treatment.
Clomid Success Rate: As much as 85% of the women who use it are able to induce ovulation. However, only half of those will actually become pregnant. Most authorities agree that continuing for more than 6 ovulatory cycles is not likely to increase the chances of clomid success.
Clomid Dosage: Consult your doctor for proper dosage. For adults, it is usually 50mg tablet a day for 5 days starting from 5th day of your menstrual cycle. If you miss a clomid dosage, take it as soon as you remember it. However, if it is about the time for your next clomid dosage, take two dosages at the same time and then go back to your normal dosage.
