Intrinsa
Female Testosterone Patch
Intrinsa is a female testosterone patch by Proctor & Gamble. It is intended for women with lack of sexual desire as a result of medical or surgical menopause. Intrinsa testosterone patch is a skin patch containing testosterone, a hormone that affects sexual desire in women. Studies suggest that testosterone can impact sexual desire after menopause.
Researches show that testosterone patch can help women increase their sexual desire who had their ovaries removed. Since inception viagra helped millions of men who are suffering from impotence or erectile dysfunction. After the launch of viagra, there was one question whether or not there would be any female viagra. Till now, there is no such products but Intrinsa testosterone patch is a hope for women and being considered now as female viagra.
According to a large-scale Phase III safety and efficacy study result published end of 2004, it showed that the treatment with Intrinsa female testosterone patch significantly increased satisfying sexual activity and sexual desire in menopausal women with Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD) and who previously had both ovaries removed. HSDD is defined as a lack of sexual desire that causes a woman personal distress.
What is Testosterone
Testosterone is produced naturally in the female ovaries and adrenal glands; it is linked to female sexual function. When a woman gets her ovaries surgically removed, she experiences an immediate decline in testosterone. The loss of sexual desire can be associated with this testosterone drop. According to a recent study, an estimated one in three surgically menopausal women in the U.S. has low sexual desire and nearly half of these women report being distressed about it. Low desire is the most commonly reported type of female sexual health complaint.
In another recent study, it showed that 50% of women receiving the intrinsa patch showed a significant increase in sexual desire as opposed to those receiving a placebo. The study only included women with low sex drive due to surgically induced menopause and all had hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) condition. This is a very significant result for a disease which previously had no effective treatment. The study showed there were also significant increases in other measures of sexual function, such as arousal, orgasm, pleasure, responsiveness, and less psychological distress.
